My client today was trying to decide between woven woods and shutters for his home office. He was wanting to transition to a more formal office with rich, dark furniture. His home is also set on a beautiful lot surrounded by trees in Maineville, OH. His considerations would be to go with a more casual, natural “woodsy” feel with the woven woods, or a more formal, stately feel with the shutters. Given the setting of the home and the formal office, there is no “right ” answer - just preference.

Brown tastes good - we have a lot positive culinary associations with this wonderful color. Anyone a chocolate freak? Or maybe fried chicken? Or fresh bread from the oven? Older generations sometimes thought of brown as boring, but younger generations see it as upscale, luxurious and formal. Brown and orange are also the colors we associate with Thanskgiving. so enjoy that brown roasted turkey and the pumpkin pie.

All colors are a reflection of nature. Brown is rich, warm and comforting. It’s a color that most humanity feels comfortable with, because of its association with earth. Brown represents honesty and stability. During times of trouble, we often turn to brown and other earth tones. Interesting that brown has been a key color in fashion and home decor during this year of financial and poitical upheaval.

What a fabulous experience! I was honored to work in the home of the Ayer’s family in West Chester, OH. I worked with several other drapery experts, as we crafted bedding and draperies for the new home. It was truly a “feel good” experience. God bless you, Ayer’s family!
