I know it’s only August, but now is the time to start thinking about window treatments if you want to have your home ready for the holidays.  Something you can do before you meet with a professional is start an idea file–colors you like, magazine photos, ads, articles that you find, etc.  You’ll start to see a pattern emerge and this will help convey your tastes so that you end up with a window treatment that suits your tastes and lifestyle.  Check out your local Friends of the The Library and you’re bound to find some decorating magazines.  Go forth and clip!
