Child safety books are available from Hunter Douglas and members should order to have available customers as soon as possible.  We have long used safety devices to eliminate risk to children and pets.   We are offering an exchange trade-in for blinds and products from any manufacturer or dealer in the Kansas City area.  Our sales staff and installers are on alert and will assist with replacements as quickly as calls come in.

The primary purpose of the announcement was to call attention to the potential dangers of Roman Shades and roll-up shades. For Roman shades the concern is that a loop of cord longer than 17” can be formed from the cords at the back and/or the front of the shade. For roll-up shades the entire cord loop is an issue. Remember that the vast majority of woven wood shades are included in the Roman shade category. Those consumers should not place cribs, etc. within reach of these shades; and possibly consider replacing these types of shades in a home where small children may be present.

While we have always been alert to this issue and have installed safety devices with products we sell wherever possible, we are assisting any homeowner with products from any dealer to take the most effective and economical action to assure full safety of their window products. 

We recommend that homeowners be aware of the risks of traditional Roman Shades that do not have safety devices constructed in them.  We also recommend products like Vignette®  from Hunter Douglas or having our workrooms use products from ADO that remove the cords from access.
